This Site Offers a Clinically Based Theory – With Chaos/Complexity Theory Implications.

Although this theory has many of the properties of the chaos model, it doesn’t appear that behavior is determined by a probability function. The model below describes the process enough to give you the idea of how behavior is generated. All active memories are in what I call the Active Experience. Basic neurology operates on the Active Experience to create a collage causing behavior. There appears to be a weighting index that is assessed by the neurology that determines which active memories are selected for a collage to run our body. In the book, (Flint, pending 2005), details describe how other memory constructs are found in therapy that complicate therapy. All of this theory might interest someone with a theoretical bent. Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions.

If you want to connect your chaos or complexity theory to a clinically based reality, this is one site that can help you do it. Most theorists don’t know abnormal behavior so their theories based on normal behavior can be rather narrow in scope. This may be a paradigm shift for you, so let me tell you how this theory evolved. Also, theorists should have a deeper understanding of human behavior.

In 1993, I had learned to do a healing process that involves tapping on acupressure points. While working with it with one of my patients, she felt a tickle under her nose. Upon inquiry, I found that her subconscious had caused a tickle on one of her acupressure points. This led me to find out that the subconscious could heal from the inside. I had previously presented a paper to the International Society for the Study of Chaos in Biology Sciences and Psychology in 1974. In this paper, I explained a emerging treatment, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, in terms of Walter Freeman’s notions on self-organized chaos. (Click to download this EMDR paper)

I worked with many multiple personality disordered patients and gradually learned to use this theory to establish rapport with all personalities in a patient This made treatment very safe and respectful. The figure shows that paradigm that has good validity with all of my patients.

The Active experience is a cooperative neural mass that operates on all internal and external sensory input, the current behavior, and learned processes like, composing and editing of language, and all memories that are elicited or bifurcate into the active expedience by the content and emotions in the active experience. This recurrent process is what generates our ongoing overt and covert behavior.

It turns out that this paradigm appears to be the paradigm that operates every memory driven process in the brain and body, namely, all behavior, muscle activity, organ activity, brain functions, etc. The theory explains all the phenomena of the personality such as hypnosis, amnesic and dissociative parts, repression, sensory intrusions, learned symptoms, the healing process, safe healing processes, therapy, etc.

So if you want to find out more about this theory or metaphor to stimulate your ideas about explaining human behavior with chaos or complexity theory, click to go to a more detailed history, theory, or description of this process.
