Introduction & first 3 chapters reformatted

Dr. Flint generously released the Introduction and first 3 chapters of the first book in the Process Healing Method series – A Theory and Treatment of Your Personality, (2006) freely on his websites and also through the ResearchGate website here: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/277721366

Those of us who have downloaded the original free PDF of this chapter, (or read the book in full), will know that the material is quite dense and sometimes difficult to digest. Therefore, newly reformatted A4 sized versions are available to download below.

The original font, spacing and general organization of the sections and subsections are clustered together and unnumbered. Also, the way the justified text wraps around the illustrated figures leaves very little room for longer words which become hyphenated and distract from the reader’s concentration.

As Garry himself pointed out, the flowable ebook versions do not have this problem and, as in the new reformatted version below, the Table Of Contents is clickable and will take you directly to the relevant chapters, headings and subheadings. However, more can be done to make the material appealing and presentable, especially for those who wish to read Dr. Flint’s work on paper, hence the color-coded section titles and important terminology.

Please note, it is not advisable to attempt to read through all of these PDFs in one sitting as that might become overwhelming. Rather, each chapter has been purposefully sectioned off below, to aid readers in treating them as separate steps along a course of learning.

The best way to integrate this material is by downloading a chapter, reading it through, setting it aside and then coming back to read it again before downloading the next chapter.

Each chapter incrementally adds new information to the preceding one, and is best approached in the same way as learning how to draw or taking up a new sport; allowing time for the information to sink in and for new connections to be made in the brain.

Dr. Flint was more concerned with setting out a tutorial style for studying the entire Process Healing Method rather than jumping into the deep end right away – first providing the bare bones in the Introduction and Chapter 1 before fleshing out the details in Chapters 2 and 3. For some, this makes for uncomfortable reading as the application of Learning Theory to his writing style can come across as repetitive and time wasting. Taking a broad perspective of all the steps illustrated in the the flowchart on page 11 of chapter 3 will help to better situate the reader.

If you wish to skip to a ‘condensed example’, (i.e. the quick start guide) go to page 15 of the reformatted Chapter 2.
